1. This Means War (2012, McG) Saw this primarily to see what the hell Tom Hardy in a rom-com looked like, and to see if they’d go for the obvious Design For Living ending, which is the only ending that would be remotely satisfying. Results closer to when this comes out, I guess. [advance screening]
2. Senso (1954, Luchino Visconti) Insanely lush, as advertised (and great fucking title), capturing not only the luxuriating nature of being crazy in love, as expressed in the slow hang-out scenes between Alida Valli and Farley Granger, but also the physical toll it takes when it sours. When Valli isn’t around Granger, she’s almost literally weighed down, unable to move, and by the end her entire being essentially malfunctions. Granger’s not bad, either; he seems far more credible when dubbed into Italian. His greatest enemy appears to be his own voice.
